Jim repaired his CV and borrowed a shaft off of another competitor and was back in the competition, he completed the stage in good time.
Martin Stainer had Jims spare shafts and as Martin is no longer competing in the competition he was not allowed to get them off of his truck as this would be deemed as outside assistance and he would be penalised for it, I beleive this is also the reason that Jim has not been able to change his steering box and as his has a Disco 2 box noone has one he can borrow.
On the next stage Jim and Adrian were first out on the last winch out of the stage they ran all of the winch line out and it came off of the drum this cost them time and the completed the section in 18 minutes. Paul and Nev wre next up they drove the stage without winching in 8 minutes.
Next stage was a tricky one and again Jim and Adrian went first they DNF the stage and incurred a 20 minute penalty. Paul and Nev used 5 minutes of the allocated 20 minutes for the stage to walk it and decided they would sackj the stage and they too incurred a 20 minute penalty.
The competitors are not allowed to walk the stages before the time start they are going into them blind.
The are going back to camp now for some rest before they go out to do another few night stages. Still all very positive and moral high!!!

RAINFORESTCHALLENGE - DAY 3 |
|
They finishes the night stage at about 2.30am and got back to camp, which was the village football pitch cut into the side of the mountain. Rained through the night. Started on Thursday at about 11am were they had 55kilometers of road book to follow on mountain passes, this was not scored.
At the destination there were 6 stages to complete. The moral is really high and they are all having a great time, Paul and Nev still chasing Jim and Adrian very closely. Martin rolled his vehicle but has not hurt and had no damage. The amount of spectators that are out to watch is amazing, literally 100's of people watching everywhere they go.
The way they are working the scores out are that you are scoring 60 points for every minute competiting in a stage. (So basically 1 point per second) So for example if Paul did a stage in 23 seconds and Jim did it in 3 minutes paul would score 23 and Jim 180 points. Points are also added for penalties, and the team with the lowest amount of points wins.
They are completed stages 1-5 well (apart from Martrins roll) but when they arrived at the last stage at about 6.30pm there were two competitors very stuck in the stage and after waiting around for quite a while a decision was made by all the competitors to all abandon the stage and all receive a 20 minute penalty. Obvoiusly this would effect everyones scores the same and so was the fairest way to resolve the situation so they wern,t out all night waiting to start the stage.
They had a night off last night and were taken back to the main square where food was laid on , good sleep in a hotel should prepare them for another day tomorrow.
Last night only 12 cars remained in the compeition out of 24.
